So, What About Your Celebrant's Wedding Attire?

What attire should a Celebrant wear to a ceremony? Simply, it depends.

Often the fiancés (e.g. Bride and Groom) might have their ceremony in a formal environment e.g. a venue's chapel or venue's romantic garden setting. This would warrant smart business-like attire e.g. a male celebrant wearing a suit and tie, a business shirt with long pants and dress shoes.

In contrast, the wedding might be taking place on a beach, say on a warm summer’s day. In this setting, there's simply no need for a male Celebrant to wear a tie. Instead, simply an open jacket with a collared shirt, dress pants and dress shoes. (In fact, shoes might be optional for all attendees including the Celebrant!)

In further contrast, the wedding couple may have a themed wedding (e.g. Star Wars, Vikings, etc) or a cultural wedding (e.g. Asian, Indian, etc) to which the Celebrant’s attire could be adapted!

Nonetheless, at all times a Civil Wedding Celebrant in Australia is upholding the federal legislative requirements of the Marriage Act as administered by the Attorney General's Department. So, the Celebrant’s attire should always be reflective of this responsibility.
